The American Youth Soccer Organization was created in the city of Los Angeles. In the beginning this association had only a few teams as members. Today though, the AYSO has grown to over 50,000 teams and more than 600,000 players! The divisions are based by the different age groups. It starts at U-5 and goes up until U-19.

The AYSO has been holding an annual National Games event since 1988. This year the AYSO National Games will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee. The dates of these games will be from July 1st-8th. During this seven day long tournament there will be 202 teams from throughout the country showing off their impressive soccer skills. Each day different teams will compete, deciding which team will continue to the next level. By the end of the tournament there will be one team who will be crowned as the winner.

The AYSO also has a RoadShow, in which they travel the country to train and build skills. The training process is meant to help increase the numbers of AYSO volunteers. They also hope to build better and stronger players by having them be led by properly trained coaches. By having properly trained coaches they also hope that it will attract more players to register.

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is an organization dedicated to child development as a whole. While the focus is on the fun and skill gained by participating on one of the thousands of teams nationwide, committed volunteers, parents, and coaches make sure the environment is centered on positive reinforcement, tolerance and patience, and the desire to give back to fellow team members and the community.

The philosophy of AYSO ensures that no matter the ability, physical challenge, income level or any proposed limitation that a child may have, all kids play. This mission is not only taught to the many dedicated coaches, but to every child that enters the program. Everyone who joins the team is equal from the start.

Over the years, ASYO has been fortunate enough to grow into a wide-reaching entity. This allowed for many specific programs to be tweaked so that kids with special needs, beginners, talented prodigies, or those with the desire for more or less challenge in the game still benefited equally from all of the life skills AYSO reinforces.

Noticing that many kids could not start out on an even playing field no matter AYSO’s intentions, a program designed to address safety at home was formed. The Safe Haven program trains coaches and volunteers to be aware of the signs of abuse or neglect that may prevent a child from showing up to a game. By being a part of AYSO, the group can act as a means of intervention and protection.

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is a leader in facilitating sports for children that not only develops athletic skills but puts its emphasis on teaching kids how to be a success as a human being. The child-focused approach to all the AYSO accomplishes is the fundamental objective on which all of its programs are based.

Started in 1964 as a grassroots operation in Los Angeles, the AYSO has grown to be one of the most inclusive quality youth soccer programs in the United States. No matter what age, income level, ability, or physical challenge, there is a place for all children in an AYSO program.

All kids enjoy outside activity, learning new things, and accomplishing new milestones. The AYSO is a fun, family- oriented environment which enriches the lives of children in many ways regardless of soccer skill.

The philosophy of the AYSO ensures that all kids are included in activities which are based on positive reinforcement, good sportsmanship, and learning to maintain balance. Kids get exposed to players at all skill levels while being taught to learn with enthusiasm and patience.

Learning to teach and guide others to develop their soccer and social skills by mentoring is another aspect to AYSO’s mission. As kids go through the program, they are rewarded with the opportunity to be positive role models to children at the beginner levels.

Everyone participates as a team member and plays equally. There are no try-outs or auditions. The only requirement is the desire to learn and have fun while doing so.
